Introduction
The automotive manufacturer introduced new ERP system on Microsoft Dynamics platform and they required to move all dealers across the Europe to the new platform. We helped our client to proces full data migration from legacy ERP system to the new environment.
This company introduced new central ERP system based on Microsoft Dynamics platform and required to move all dealership network from legacy systems to the new environment.
A legacy dealer’s ERP system had a different business objects definition and the data structure comparing to the Microsoft Dynamics.
Many previous attempts were not successful and so we were asked not only to migrate the data, but to process it as well, and move the data without loss of information.
To start with the migration, at the beginning we had to define differences between legacy and new platform. We mapped the structure of the current ERP system to the new required architecture of the Microsoft Dynamics web service, which is used to import data by Italy IT department.
After the data mapping is done, we started to check the data partially. During the project, we found lots of similar or legacy records that shouldn’t be migrated, so the data processing stage have been started. We have developed a custom application where, based on rules, we were able to get all duplicated or legacy records.
In iterations, we have processed more than 1M records with its relations to other business objects, every time checking if all the data are properly prepared and possible to import.
By the final results we generated CSV files available to import by the IT department in company’s HQ. All files were successfully imported to the Microsoft Dynamics platform and the migration was done. The dealer was able to move operations to the new ERP system without loss of important information.
The full data migration process included:
1M
Records properly migrated
14K
Duplicated records proceesed
